Lizabeth Scott and Arthur Kennedy are a couple who receive a satchel full of money that was intended for someone else (Dan Duryea). He wants to turn the cash over to the authorities; she wants to keep it---no matter what the consequenses:
"Jane, Jane, what's happening to us---what's happening. The money sits down there in an old leather bag and yet it's tearing us apart. It's poison, Jane. It's changing you, it's changing both of us."
"Chances like this are never offered twice. This is it. I've been waiting for it---dreaming of it all my life, even when I was a kid."

Lizabeth Scott gives me the creeps! She reminds me of the type of broad who would be giving you the stare while she had your “cock a doodle do” in her mouth and her hand in your wallet. I won’t say where the other hand would be or what it would be doing! Even I’ve got limitations.

I only have one question: What is the story about her hair? What does she have in it to make it all move like that? Not one hair out of place!

A fine telling of the “old story” that greed will be your downfall. And with a great cast and very good writing this one does not disappoint.Well worth watching just for Dan Duryea and the inevitable ending.

Wow one of the best movies I ever watched. Many plots rolled into one. Great acting with the leading actress acing her role. The end was climatic, and spine chilling good. Would enjoy watching it again with a decent bottle of vino; and a beautiful inside, and outside woman.

not bad, good moral lesson about greed. This movie actually is out on bluray now, if your willing to pay thirty bucks.

Five star plot, of course we learn where greed leads us, and there's truth enough in that.
Acting was fine, direction and editing was only fair, film quality could be better (that's not a complaint, just pointing it out), but the plot of the story is it's selling point. Watch the film, and watch it to the end; it's worth it.

"Never EVER accept a beverage from a spouse or sibling unless you personally observe them opening the container and pouring it right in front of you."
Yet another film that illustrates that point. There were several examples on Forensic Files including the devout fundamentalist Baptist in Oklahoma who kept offing his wives. (what was that about Jesus that Jesus Buddy said?)
OK film. A mixture of characters.

I understand her desire. Her husband was a petit bourgeois. I would have kept the money too. But it was wrong that she killed people. When I saw her dead I felt very bad.

Good acting. Most women are EXACTLY this way---excessively money hungry and can always kill for it directly or indirectly. Many men are this way too. Why do you think people divorce and remarried, etc? It is a shame! Millions of people are heading to hell in a hand-basket. Great movie. Great lesson. Beware of whom you call a wife or husband. You may be marrying to your death and destruction. Also, look at the pains and sufferings of the liar-woman. Lying and deception are grave evils of self-destruction. You can never get away with sin!!! Impossible! It always finds you out! Jesus in a person’s life is MOST CRITICAL!!!

I read a review that said this was one of the least known, but one of the best classic film noir genre.
I would have to agree. No spoilers here, but this movie kept my interest the whole time.

I have watched this one several times. Duryea made me laughed and I hated to see him die. I like Liz Scott too. Duryea just took over this one. Great film.

Ya just gotta love a woman who falls off the balcony whilst getting really greedy..
What a great flick...Tiger.
Elizabeth Scott really looked like she could have used a few fat laced hamburgers.. what an anorexic looking bag of bones..But ya gotta admit, the water in Mexico made her boobs grow..err something like that. And just how did that tiny little broad knock that big guy out? Did she have a remote controlled baseball bat in the closet?

A real fun ride with more twists and turns than most! Duryea is fantastic with something of a conscience and Scott equally fantastic without one! The rest of the cast does a fine job too.
"Oh your great baby, don't ever change...I don't think I'd like you as much with a heart."
Enjoy!

In spite of a cast including the marvellous Dan Duryea the ever dependable Arthur Kennedy and Lizabeth (The Threat) Scott, this film is,on the whole, no more than average. A pity though. The first half was very good but then we lost Arthur and started to see less of Dan. So with second rate Don Defore in the leading man/hero role, tedium sets in well before the end. Unfortunately, Lizabeth Scott is no Barbara Stanwyk or Joan Crawford and needs a strong leading man to help her along.

Subject: great film noir, but beware of versions with missing footage
This is a real gem for film noir lovers. Lizabeth Scott is the scheming femme fatale at her best and Dan Duryea is magnificently sleazy.
However, two different versions are available from this page, one of which is incomplete: the original MPEG2 (Too_Late_For_Tears.mpeg) and its derivatives have 5mn worth of footage missing. This version has a running time of 1h33mn30s, versus an official running time of 1h39mn as indicated on the IMDB web site. Most of the missing footage amounts to a 4mn long scene about 59mn into the movie.
The original MPEG4 upload (TooLateForTears.mp4) is the complete version, but is unfortunately blurrier and, above all, darker. This makes the night scenes (a good chunk of the movie) rather difficult to see, but it's still well worth a look.

Another rendition of this popular mid-twentieth century theme. As a Lisabeth Scott fan, I was disappointed at first, but eventually warmed up to this film. Ms Scott's character maneuvers the twists and turns of the strange plot with a lot of pouting and sneaking around people who aren't really who they say they are. I won't give away the ending, but you know how it goes in these movies. Greed never pays.
